No Insurance, No Problem. Reasonable Rates with Dr. Repetto – NYC Chiropractor / Applied Kinesiologist

Hi!, I’m Dr. Vittoria Repetto, a native downtown New Yorker and Doctor of Chiropractor and an Applied Kinesiologist who has been in practice since 1987. And recently a Neuro Kinetic Therapy practitioner.

I treat the whole person, not just your symptoms. I know that balancing your structure, your biochemistry and your mental outlook all contribute to your well-being.

Each of my 75 minute long wellness sessions is unique and composed of interrelated holistic therapies that work together to achieve maximum benefits.

I am not affiliated with any insurance network.

If I belonged to a network I would have to see patients in an assembly line fashion (10-15 minutes). I would not be able to take time to, for example, balance the muscle pull on your spine or extremities or to do cranial sacral work or acupressure work or talk to you about your nutritional needs or suggest exercises or lifestyle changes related to your condition.

Therefore I ask that my patients pay me directly and I fill out their insurance claim form and they get reimbursed by their insurance company if they are allowed to go “out of network” by their policy.

I charge $150 for the initial visit which includes consultation, examination and treatment and the $120 for the following visits.

The fees for my practice are moderate by New York City standards; most doctors offering similar therapies charge $ 200 to $300 for their visits and spend less time on each visit .

My fees can be paid in cash and check (no credit cards). Payment is expected at the time of service..

Services include:

  • Spinal Manipulation
  • Extremity Manipulation
  • Jaw (TMJ) Manipulation
  • NeuroKinetic Therapy
  • Cranial – Sacral Work
  • Chinese Five Element Energy /Acupressure Therapy
  • Organ Vascular & Lymphatic Therapy
  • Muscle Balancing
  • Emotional Balancing
  • Stress Reduction
  • Galvinic Therapy
  • Nutritional Consultation

Because of my Whole Person approach to wellness, I have helped patients with both short-term problems and long-term unresolved problems become free of their complaints.

And because I spend a good deal of time with you and because of my use of interrelated therapies, unlike a lot of doctors, I don’t require you to come in three times a week.

Some of the complaints that I have helped in the last 29 years are:

  • Musculoskeletal problems such as low back pain, neck pain, sciatica, carpal tunnel, rotator cuff problems, knee pain, muscle pains
  • Headaches, Migraines
  • High blood pressure, fatique, low energy, problems losing weight, dizziness, vertigo, poor memory
  • Digestive problems such as constipation, diarrhea, belching, bloating, difficulty with certain foods, heartburn,
  • Respiratory problems such as hyper-sensitivity to pollen, ragweed, etc, difficulty breathing, frequent colds, sinus problems
  • Immune problems such as frequesnt colds, flu, infections
  • Menstrual cramps, hot flashes, irregular cycles, etc

So if you  want to utilize non-pharmacological means of getting relief, please give me a call at 212-431-3724. I’m located at 230 W 13th St #1B, NYC 10011 (between 7th & Greenwich Ave)

I’m  also the writer of this  blog, in which I talk about chiropractic, applied kinesiology techniques, muscle balancing, my thoughts on nutrition and healing and as befits a foodie and a daughter of an Italian chef, even some healthy and delicious recipes.

Applied Kinesiology As Part Of Treating for Functional Wellness

First what is functional wellness?

Functional wellness is an approach to the human body that allows you to treat the underlying cause of the problem such as for example heartburn—not just manage the symptoms of it.

Its primary distinction is a focus on overall health—physical, mental, and nutritional. It’s not a single treatment for a single problem (or its symptoms).

As a certified applied kinesiologist, I look for the cause of the problem. For example, in a case of heartburn, I look to see if the spinal segments innervating the stomach, the esophagus and diaphragm are moving freely.

Do the neuro-lymphatic or the neuro-vascular points need stimulation to increase lymphatic or vascular flow?

Is there a cranial fault involved?

Is the patient using their diaphragm correctly to breathe?  Is an imbalance in their psoas muscle affecting their diaphragm?

Is a visceral manipulation needed?

Does the patient need enzymes to help them digest or zinc to heal inflammation in the digestive tract?  Does the patient need probiotics?

Are there acupressure points involved? Is the energy in their stomach meridian being affected by an overflow of liver meridian energy due to the patient’s anger issues?

These and other questions arise when looking for the cause of a problem.

The human body functions as a network of interconnected systems that affect each other. so a functional wellness approach such as a chiropractic/applied kinesiology/nutrition treats the whole body rather than a sub-section or single organ system.

The goal of functional wellness also is the prevention and addressing the underlying clinical imbalances that may lead to any number of chronic problems.

Keeping the spine and the cranium moving freely and the lymphatic, vascular and acu-points unblocked and making sure that the patient has the proper nutrition that they need is part of our prevention/maintenance care.

Part of my continuing education is keeping abreast of nutritional research and chiropractic techniques; please check out our Bibliography page on my web site http://www.drvittoriarepetto.com for a list of my continuing education studies.

If you have any questions or wish to talk to me about your concerns, please feel free to contact me either by e-mail drvittoriarepett@aol.com  or via phone 212-431-3724.

A NYC Chiropractor/Applied Kinesiologist/NeuroKinetic Therapist Talks About Spinal Stenosis

Spinal stenosis is a common finding in the spines of older patients. Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spinal canal.

spinal stenosis

This can develop as you age from drying out and shrinking of the disc spaces. (80% of the discs are made up of water)  Or it can be caused by scarring from chronic inflammation of the nerve roots as they exit from the spinal foramina next to the spinal canal You can feel pain anywhere along your back or leg that the nerve root supplies.

Walking more than a block can cause great leg and back pain in a stenosis patient; pain is relieved by forward bending or sitting

Spinal stenosis may be in the neck, mid-back or low back

Spinal stenosis can be treated conservatively; surgery is not always necessary or successful and over medication with pain killers can cause side effects from stomach pain, heart failure, stroke and more joint breakdown.

There is a technique founded and taught by chiropractors called Cox Technic which uses a table that provides Flexion distraction and spinal decompression and is considered spinal manipulation

Cox Technic biomechanically opens the spinal canal area by 28% and drops intradiscal pressures to as low as -192mmHg , both desired outcomes when dealing with spinal stenosis which narrows the spinal canal space.

In my office, the Cox technique is combined w other non-force techniques such as pelvic blocking (SOT) and applied kinesiology techinques such as balancing muscles that support the spine and pelvis such as the psoas, piriformis, gluteus maximus, erector muscles and abdominal muscles  and treating the lymphatic and vascular points that supply those muscles.

I also use neurokinetic therapy (NKT) which works with the concept that movement is performed in systems or patterns.  NKT identifies muscle imbalances by using muscle testing to determine what muscles are inhibited and what muscles are compensating (facilitating) for them.

After balance is restored to the muscles, the vertebrae involved with those muscles are adjusted.

Stretches are given to the previously facilitated muscles and exercises given to the previously inhibited muscles in order to break the pattern that caused the problem.

Please see: How a NYC Chiropractor /Applied Kinesiologist /NeuroKinetic Therapist Treats Sciatica

http://neurokinetictherapy.com/what-is-neurokinetic-therapy

I use nutrition to decrease the chronic spinal inflammation of the discs and nerves which that increases pain relief.

While spinal stenosis may not be cured due to the degenerative nature of the problem, the painful effect on the patient’s life can be controlled.

Spinal stenosis patients are often happy with  relief of the pain that allows them to take a walk or sit for a meal comfortably with their family and other daily activities. Being able to participate in the activities of daily living and family life without the use of prescription drugs with dangerous side effects is often the desired effect of any treatment for spinal stenosis.

Monthly maintenance visits are highly recommended to keep the patient pain free.

Here at Dr. Vittoria Repetto’s practice, we have the table and skills to help you with your spinal stenosis; please give us a call at 212-431-3724 to set up an appointment or just to ask questions.

As a Doctor of Chiropractic and an Applied Kinesiologist, I’m interested in holistic health care and eating healthy in order to promote life-long wellness.

I do realize that occasionally we need to take pharmaceuticals like for example antibiotics.

But we need to be aware that medications can cause nutrient deletion especially if patients are on pharmaceuticals for a extended period of time.

How a NYC Chiropractor/Applied Kinesiologist Treats Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

These days with all our computer usage, we are very aware of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome which consists of weakness, numbness or tingling or pain in the first 3 fingers in your hand. The problem is caused by pressure on the median nerve as it travels through a “tunnel” in our wrist formed by the bones of our wrist and a ligament called the flexor retinaculum or the transverse carpal ligament

carpal tunnel

The pressure can be caused by structural collapse of the tunnel by over-extension of the wrist as in over-use of computers, hammering or using a wrench or narrowing due to arthritis or fluid in the tunnel caused by diabetes or hypothyroidism

As a Doctor of Chiropractic and an Applied Kinesiologist, I would first rule out diabetes and hypothyroid by patient history, signs & symptoms and blood and urine tests. Compression of the wrist in arthritis would make the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome worse instead of making it better.

And as course, since the median nerve is a branch of the brachial nerves coming from the 5th, 6th and 7th cervical nerve roots at the spinal level, I rule out problems in the neck  and down the course of the nerve such as muscle entrapment and shoulder and elbow problems.

Treatment of the syndrome involves adjustment of the wrist bones and sometimes  adjusting the way the two forearm bones (the ulna & radius) articulate with each other,  balancing the muscles that cross the wrist joint in both flexion and extension.

forearm muscles

Please see https://drvittoriarepetto.wordpress.com/2010/06/21/muscle-balancing-in-applied-kinesiology/

A wrist wrapping or a brace would be used for support and exercises for the wrist would be recommended. Nutritional support for the nerves and ligaments and a natural anti-inflammatory would be recommended to speed up the healing following the structural correction.

By utilizing applied kinesiology and chiropractic, we can balance the body’s structure and chemistry utilizing and can solve many health problems by addressing the cause. Please feel free to call  to schedule a consultation to discuss this or any other health issues you may have.

Why Maintenance Chiropractic & AK Care?

Many people have found that after regaining their health through chiropractic care, they can maintain health by regular check-ups. And it is easier to maintain health than to regain it once lost. Chiropractic care with applied kinesiology offers the best opportunity to maintain health because it works with the triad of health:  Structure, Chemical & Mental (Emotional).

The triad of health represents three areas where health dysfunction may develop to cause health problems. Because nearly all major health problems develop for many years before symptoms appear and the problem is discovered, it is important to have a system to find dysfunction before symptoms develop. Applied kinesiology is such a system. First, lets look at the three areas of the triad of health: Structure, Chemical & Mental (Emotional)

Structure: Structural imbalance may occur at any time in our modern environment. For example: Rather than getting good exercise by walking to work most of us ride the subway to work. Once there, we do a lot of sitting. This can cause a weakening and very oft en an imbalance of muscle structure, in turn affects the bodys structural balance. Even those who do a lot of physical work, keeping their muscles in excellent tone, are subjected to great structural stresses throughout the day, e.g., the forklift operator who gets jarred all day. Sometimes an injury occurs from lifting or from something as simple as bumping ones head. The pain goes away shortly but there may be residual problems causing functional imbalance. Often a simple problem causes a weakness that sets up a distortion that allows another stress to cause an additional functional problem such as a spasm in the low back causing a weakness in the Psoas muscle which in turn may cause a problem w/ our walking or breathing via its association w/ the diaphragm muscle. Structural imbalance creates health problems in many ways, especially through interference with normal nerve function via pressure on the nerve root at the spinal level or at the muscle spindles or golgi tendons.

Chemical: We live in a modern chemical environment. Pollution, preservatives in foods, artificial food products, and drugs put a tremendous strain on the organs and glands of our bodies. Even if we eat organic foods, the fact that they may be picked prior to the ripening process in order to facilitate shipping across the country or that our soil is missing important nutrients compared to 50 yrs ago. Some diets such as the typical meat & potato American diet or Atkins may contain too much saturated fat or too much iron or not enough fiber; vegan or vegetarian diets may not contain enough vitamin B12; too much soy may be contributing to a sluggish thyroid or too much roughage may be decreasing your absorption of nutrients. Or we have food allergies that affects the absorption of nutrients and allows the passage of toxic materials via an injured gut lining. All these factors may be contributing from some type of nutritional problem.

Mental (Emotional): In our distant past, most stressors were related to battling w/ the environment or producing food and fighting dangerous animals or an enemy; and these stressors were dealt w/ physical activity helping keep the body in harmony. Today we are faced with mental problems as the kids not getting along with the neighbors, problems at work, financial worries, or conflicts with an individual. These are problems that cannot be fought physically, the effect often a hormonal imbalance, and it in turn creates a neurologic imbalance. Fortunately applied kinesiology, in combination with other diagnostic procedures, can find health problems just beginning to develop before they cause an actual disease. The glandular system, out of balance as a result of mental stress, can be returned to normal by nutritional supplementation and neurologic treatment via neuro-lympathic, neuro-vascular and acupressure points.

Structural stresses that accumulate from our imbalanced type of living can be restored to normal via spinal, extremity or cranial adjustments and muscle balancing.

Chemical imbalances in the form of dietary deficiencies (or overload) can be found and corrected either by supplements or a change in our diet or homeopathics. Detrimental chemical factors can be identified and, as much as possible, eliminated from our environment.

Maintenance health care varies for different individuals. Factors that must be considered in determining the frequency of your health care visits are: 1. The current level of your health; 2. Age; 3. Congenital weaknesses such as a congenital short leg; 4. Stress that cannot be eliminated, such as living in the city. 5. Nutritional status 6. Habits

Remember what you do today will affect your health five, ten, and even twenty years from now.
